A / B Longarm Licence requirements

The steps to getting your A and/or B Licence. Detailed licence info

Step one: You will need to complete a Firearms Safety Training Course Longarms. The club offers these at least once a month at the Howard Street Range you will need to contact us to confirm when the next one is on.

Step Two: You will need a genuine reason, Club membership is the best way as you will gain knowledge and experience from like minded people.

Target

Once you have you Licence you will need to meet or exceed your licence requirements to keep your licence. For target shooting you will need to compete in a minimum of 4 target shooting matches in the 12 month reporting period.

Hunting

Hunting has a minimum of 2 shoot in the 12 month reporting period. The hunting matches are shot at the first shoot of the month in the Field Class match. At each range Howard street and Dairyville

Steps to getting your Pistol Licence

Step one: You must be a member of a Pistol Club

Step Two: You will need to complete a Firearms Safety Training Course Pistols. The club offers these at the Dairyville Range but you will need to contact us to confirm when the next one is on.

Step Three: As part of the Pistol safety course once you are issued you Probationary Pistol Licence (PPL) you are required to do 3 shoot in the first 6 months to complete the course and be issued a COMPLETION CERTIFICATE. Failure to complete the 3 shoots in that time frame will be issued a FAILURE TO COMPLETE in which case the PPL will be void and you will be required to start again.

Step Four: Once you have your COMPLETION CERTIFICATE and 6 Months has past on your PPL you will then need to get a pistol safe and mount it to the requirements. Contact your local Police station and book in to get a safe inspection, once you have your Event number from the Police you then can apply for a Permit To Acquire (PTA) you MUST notify the Secretary when submitting a pistol PTA via email to secretary@coffsrifleclub.com.au. And decide if you want to get a Rimfire or a Centerfire Pistol you can have 2 in the second 6 months but they must be of the same type so 2 rimfires or 2 centerfires you unfortunately cannot have one of each.

Step Five: At the end of the 12 months of your PPL you will have received the paperwork to apply for the full Pistol licence you must submit the paperwork before your PPL expires. If successful your Full pistol license is issued after your PPL expires.

Pistol PTA’s – Permit To Acquire: You MUST notify the Secretary when submitting any pistol PTA via email to secretary@coffsrifleclub.com.au with Your name, the E number and information if stored at another safe storage address such as gun shop.

Target

Once you have your full Pistol Licence it has more requirements than rifles. You are required to have a minimum of 6 shoot in a 12 month reporting period if you have 1 TYPE of pistol. If you have more than one TYPE of pistol please see table below from the Firearms registry.

High Calibre Pistol

The club is also approved for Large/High Calibre Pistol from .38 up to .45 cal.

Collecting requirements

To meet the requirements for a Collecting licence you need to attend one collecting meeting in the 12 month reporting period
